Hytera BD305LF Discontinued: Best Replacements (2026)

The Hytera BD305LF was the default licence-free radio for hundreds of UK schools, warehouses and venues — cheap, tough, and simple. Hytera has now discontinued it, so when handsets die there are no new ones to buy. The good news: three current Hytera models slot straight into a BD305LF fleet, and your existing accessories may not all need replacing either.

The three replacements, honestly compared

1. Hytera BP515LF — the official successor (£154 ex VAT)

Hytera names the BP515LF as the BD305LF’s replacement. Digital and analogue on PMR446, so it talks to your remaining BD305LFs out of the box in analogue and to each other in cleaner digital. Slimmer body, better battery. Buy this if you want like-for-like and future-proof.

2. Hytera BD505LF — the value workhorse (£133 ex VAT, six-pack £901)

Same licence-free digital family, 16-hour battery, rugged. The most popular school radio we sell — see the BD505LF and the six-pack. Buy this if you’re replacing several handsets and want the best price per radio.

3. Hytera AP515LF — the budget analogue (£110 ex VAT)

Analogue-only, which is exactly why it’s the cheapest — and analogue is all you need to stay compatible with old BD305LFs during a phased swap: AP515LF. Buy this if budget rules.

Will they work alongside my remaining BD305LFs?

Yes — all three operate on the same licence-free PMR446 band. Run mixed fleets in analogue mode, or move fully to digital when the last BD305LF retires.
