Antennas

A correctly tuned antenna for the right band, VHF or UHF, is the cheapest way to recover lost range and keep audio clear. The wrong band or a damaged whip is one of the most common reasons a radio underperforms on site.

Match the antenna to your radio and frequency band; we can confirm the right one. Browse two way radios or all radio accessories.

Radio antenna FAQs

Will a new antenna improve my range?

If the current one is damaged or the wrong band, yes — dramatically. A correctly tuned antenna is the cheapest way to recover range that has quietly been lost.

VHF or UHF — which do I need?

It must match the band your radio and Ofcom licence use. As a rule UHF works better inside buildings and through steel; VHF carries further across open ground.

Can I fit a longer antenna for more range?

Only within what your licence and radio allow. A longer whip can help on VHF outdoors, but the band and tuning matter far more than length.

How do I know an antenna is damaged?

Range drops off while audio stays clear close up. Any visible kink, crack or loose base is enough to cost you significant range.
