The Hytera range explained

Licence-free (PMR446): the AP515LF (£110), waterproof AP525LF (£155), BD505LF (£133) and BP515LF (£154) work out of the box with no Ofcom paperwork. Licensed digital (DMR): the BD505 and BD615 are the value entry, the PD405 is the rugged workhorse, and the HP series — HP505, HP565, HP605, HP685, HP705 and HP785 — brings IP67/IP68 waterproofing, AI noise cancellation and up to 24-hour batteries. Beyond handhelds: HM655/HM685 vehicle mobiles, HR655 and HR1065 repeaters for whole-site coverage, ATEX models (HP715 Ex, HP795 Ex) for hazardous areas, and P50/PDC680 PoC for nationwide push-to-talk over 4G.

Are Hytera radios any good?

Hytera or Motorola?

Both are excellent; the honest answer is fit and budget. Hytera typically gives more radio for the money — noise cancellation and long batteries at mid-range prices — while Motorola carries the bigger name. We stock both and will recommend on the job, not the badge.

Do Hytera radios need a licence?

The LF models (AP515LF, AP525LF, BD505LF, BP515LF) are PMR446 licence-free. Licensed digital models need an Ofcom Business Radio licence — £75 for five years — and we handle the application with your order. See our licence guide.
